Harambee DE members launch a new health equity center in Wilmington

In December, Harambee Delaware members Dr. Cydney Teal and Dr. Velma Scantlebury opened the doors to the new Delaware Health Equity Coalition’s location in Wilmington.

The Delaware Health Equity Coalition is the vision and mission of three physicians who fought together on the frontlines of the Covid pandemic and heard the cry of many patients who felt dismissed by many in the healthcare sector, and quite often disrespected.  These courageous conversations coupled with more than 80 years of medical service prompted our mission to change the way health care is delivered to struggling communities in Delaware.

The organization’s mission is to provide high quality, comprehensive healthcare that will educate, empower and engage our patients, in a manner that fosters empathy, compassion and trustworthiness.

In a Linkedin post about the grand opening, Dr. Teal wrote:

“It’s really happening! Velma Scantlebury-White, MD, FACS, GCM, Joan Coker, Felicia Stallings, AuD and I are thrilled to share that we opened our doors last week, taking care of people, one patient at a time! Many thanks to all of those who have supported our vision which is now a reality. A tremendous debt of gratitude to Nicholas Moriello, Rita Landgraf, Denée Crumrine, and Highmark Inc. for sharing a common vision and believing in our mission to close health equity gaps for Delaware’s most vulnerable populations.”
